Today’s Miles: 68
Total: 721
Well we are in Canada!! And no Dean, I didn’t get stopped
at the border. It must have the company I
was with those years back. We woke to a
few drops of rain falling on our tents, but we avoided the serious stuff, so
that was good.
We did spend a few minutes going to the museum at the
locks. There was a ship going through
the locks and it was fun to watch it happen. We then had this big bridge to go
over into Canada. There was no one going
into Canada which made it nice to cross the bridge without cars piling up
behind us.
I mentioned yesterday that I needed some new scenery and
today we got it. We are seeing a lot of
agriculture and fun to see the different types of homes. There is also a large
Mennonite or Amish presence in this area.
We did see a wagon with a man and some boys riding and some little girls
playing in the yard and there are these dirt spaces on the side of the road for
the carriages to travel.
I was actually just beat after todays ride. I think these 65 mile + days are just getting
to us all. We do have a shorter 50 mile
day tomorrow, but the weather forecast doesn’t look to good. It is forecast to have rain by 9:00 and 15 to
25 MPH winds right in our face. I hope I
have something better to report. I just realized that maybe the wind speeds are
in kilometers instead of miles. That
makes things a little better if that is the case.
It is Labor Day in Canada as well today. One thing about Canada; everything closes
except for the occasional gas station.
We were hard pressed to find food for today. We ended up eating the left over pizza from
last night and did find a bottle of Ragu that we ate with pasta that we haver
been carrying for days. It was good and
did hit the spot.
We are camping tonight on the shored of northeastern Lake
Huron. It is about 60 degrees and is feeling like it could be a cool night.
