We woke to expected rain.
It was supposed to rain much of the morning and then stop raining and
just be cloudy the rest of the day. We
had a ferry to catch at 3:50, so we decided we would wait until 9:30 to
leave. We did leave in the rain, but it
was not raining hard. We rode in the
rain for probably an hour and then it subsided. The weather ran its course just
as projected.
Church I passed in Little Current.
You can see the storm clouds. Had clouds all day, but rain for only a short time.
Pretty.
It was a beautiful day of riding. It was a little cool. As long as you were moving, the temperature
was fine, but when we stopped for breaks or lunch, it got a little cold. Much of the area we have been riding through
in Ontario is Indian reservation as was the ride today. It is interesting to see the signs telling
you to stay out of certain areas and the stores there just to service the
tribes here. We did go into a souvenirs store today that had some pretty art
and items for sale.
We stopped in Manitowaning for lunch and had salami and
cheese on bagels with chocolate milk and chips.
It was quite delicious, but as I mentioned, weather was cold.
We made it to the ferry with plenty of time to
spare. It is always fun to have a ferry
ride while cycling. The bikes are always
first on and first off to get us out of the way. You just walk the bike on and they provide
ropes so that you can secure the bike so it doesn’t tip over. The ferry goes from South Baymouth to Tobermory;
about a 28km trip that takes about two hours.
We are in Tobermory and staying at a warm showers
host. It is quite the cottage we are
staying at. It is just a summer cottage
for the family that owns it, but it is right on the shores of Lake Huron. In
fact, I am sitting out on the deck listening to the waves lap against the
rocks.
We have a day off of riding tomorrow. I think it is supposed to be cool again and
we have a hike we want to take. I hope
the weather cooperates a little better for us.
Lighthouse in Manitowaning.
Light house as seen from the ferry.
View out the back of the cottage we are staying in. The host says that this year Lake Huron has been higher than any year in recorded history. He says that at times (one in ten years) the lake freezes to where you can walk to the island we came from or to Michigan.
Still with you biking family. Enjoying your fun, feelin’ your pains. 👍😁 Bill
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting little church! Are you packing around salami and cheese or did you just buy some for lunch? Chris
ReplyDeleteWe just bought some for lunch. I still remember that salami & cheese we ate of yours for days. That was just what was needed!!
ReplyDeleteBill, I wish you were with us.
