Day 20 – Tobermory to Sauble Beach, ON Canada– 9/8/19

Today’s Miles: 65
Total: 974

Well back on the road today.  It was a nice day of riding.  The wind was blowing quite hard from the northeast, but that mostly helped us today.  We rode down the Bruce Peninsula mostly right down the middle.  We took a little detour and visited the tourist spot of Lion’s Head.  That was on the eastern part of the peninsula and the wind was causing some pretty big waves there. On that side of the peninsula, the body of water is the Georgian Bay.

It has been pretty cool during the day as well.  Today we rode the whole day in our jackets and didn’t feel we wanted to take them off at all.  I think that was a first.  Tomorrow’s forecast is for a high of 61 and a low tonight of 50.  Sounds again that we might be wearing the jackets.

We rode a combination of paved and gravel roads today.  The gravel roads were in real nice shape for us to ride on and the traffic was so light on them that it was just so nice and quiet.

We are is Suable Beach tonight.  It looks like this is a place that could be quite busy during the summer.  It reminds me of beach resorts in California with the surfing and clothing shops down by the water.  We ate at a Chinese restaurant tonight.

I wanted to mention one thing about our last few days at the warmshowers host.  It is really a lot of fun to experience going into someone’s home and just getting to know them.  We just talked and talked with Doug and was able to learn so much about he and his family and Canadians and things that take place here.  I just don’t know how you would have that type of experience in any other way.  It has pretty much been that experience at each home that I have visited so far.

Looked for a church that I might attend today, but the closest one was about 75 miles away.  That is quite a distance for any members in Tobermory to go if there are any there.  Anyway, just had to think about good things on the road.  I hope that works.

  1. Fond memories of hiking from Tobermory down to Lions Head many years ago. A beautiful area. Thanks for the pics. Ride on, my friends.
