Day 26 – Dunnville to Niagara Falls, ON Canada– 9/14/19

Today’s Miles: 53
Total: 1,288
Morning started out very nice.  We didn’t cook oatmeal for breakfast and we went to McDonald’s in Dunnville and I had breakfast burritos. That was a great way to start a great day of riding.

Much of the day was spent skirting the shores of Lake Erie. It was quite a windy day, but the winds were on our side today.  We stopped at this little park along the way and there were kite surfers there getting things ready to go in the lake.  It was fun to watch them.  There were some pretty big breakers coming in and they would just fly off them.

We had lunch of bagels, ham, cheese & chips in Port Colborne and then we had a paved rail trail start that lasted for 25 miles.  That was nice.  After the rail trail, we started following the Niagara River and it turned northwest and then we were fighting against the wind for the last 10 or so miles.  Man, I am glad that we didn’t have to fight that all day.

THe trail we rode today.

The end of Lake Erie.  Buffalo NY across.

We stopped in Fort Erie to get groceries for tonight and the most available store wasn’t much of a grocery store.  We had to be a little inventive.  We had noodles with sausage and cream of mushroom soup and peas over it.  It did taste good and hit the spot.

Camping in an RV park tonight along the banks of the Niagara River.  All along the way, people have been saying that the Great Lakes are at an all time high level of water.  Looking at this river, I don’t see how it could be emptying the lakes any faster.  It is running swift and high.  I am excited to see the falls and what that must look like with all this water running over them.
