Day 19 – Tobermory, ON Canada– 9/7/19

Today’s Miles: 8
Total: 909

Day off in Tobermory and a great rest day.  We slept in first of all. Our warmshowers host has this nice cottage separate from the house with two bunk beds in it and that is where we are.

We woke had some yogurt and granola for breakfast and decided to hit the Bruce Peninsula National Park Museum that gave some history on this peninsula we are on and then booked a tour on a tour boat that operates here.  The boat took us over a couple shipwrecks that were somewhat close to the surface here and then to a popular island called Flowerpot Island.  This area is a very popular scuba destination.  There are 21 shipwrecks that people come from all over to explore.  The ship that we saw was sunk in 1885 called the Sweepstakes.  Because of the fresh water the ships don’t deteriorate like they would in saltwater.  It is amazing that the ship is still there after all these years.

Our host is a big scuba diver and loves this area for the shipwrecks.  Most of them are very deep and you have to have some experience to see the best.

The Sweepstakes.

We had a nice hike on Flowerpot Island.  The island is so green with many cedar trees and moss growing.  Very pretty.

Yours truly.

These two rock structures is what gives the island its name.  These were formed about 2,000 years ago when the lake levels were a lot higher.

Ended the day by taking Doug, our host, to dinner.  It was a wonderful dinner and we enjoyed talking about his favorite things about Canada.  He really loves this area and knows a lot about it.  It was enjoyable to hear his thoughts about the area and Country.

Legs still feeling very tired, but will be back on the road tomorrow.  I think the leg situation will be just the way it is for the foreseeable future.

  1. Granola and yogurt? Did you make your own body heat and sweat yogurt? 🤢
