Day 22 – Kincardine to Goderich, ON Canada– 9/10/19

Today’s Miles: 35
Total: 1,055

I know, I know.  “35 miles, that’s all you did?”  I know that’s what you are thinking.  We battled sustained winds of 15 mph and gusts of 25 blowing in our face for all those miles and we gave up.  This afternoon, those winds even increased to 21 mph.  We were supposed to ride 70 miles today and knew we would not be able to do it.  We looked for places to stay or camp a little further down the road while we were having lunch in Goderich and couldn’t find anything, so we got a motel here and quit. There is something about wind that just takes it out of you.  We did spend much of the day drafting off one another.  I don’t like to do that; especially on a fully loaded bike, but it was a must on a day like today.

We are staying in a brand new Comfort Inn and the price was only $89 Canadian.  That’s like $70 American $’s, so we couldn’t resist. Campgrounds down the road wanted $69 for tents.

We rode mostly through some farming areas of corn and soybeans.  We did have the scent of dairy much of the way, but I couldn’t see the dairy.  That smell can carry quite a distance, however. 😊 There were also wind turbines that continued on for 25 miles of todays ride.  Good day for them.

We think we can cut the corner tomorrow and make up all the distance we lost today.  We did have to say goodbye to Lake Huron.  We will be heading the other direction tomorrow.

Farms that was saw throughout the day.

There were a lot of these types of farm houses.  We passed the nicest one and didn't take a picture.  That dang wind.

Last look at Huron.  See that ore freighter?
